Visiting the Church for the First Time

We understand that it can be difficult visiting a church for the first time. This can be the case even if you have been going to another church but more so if you have not been to church before. Different churches worship in different ways. You may wonder about when the services are held, where to go and what to do when you arrive.

When are the services and what are they like?

At Ringway Life Building, services are held on a Saturday morning. Since COVID-19 and essential renovation work in the church, in 2023 we have changed the order of service.

10:30 am – Worship Service.

We typically start with a welcome by the Elder of Duty followed by singing led by the worship team. The songs we sing are a mixture of well know traditional hymns, along with modern, contemporary praise songs. All the words are presented on a screen at the front of church for people to follow. The worship team can often be accompanied by some of the children who we encourage to play a part in the service as much as possible.

A children’s story will normally follow the song service after which the speaker for the day will present the sermon. A closing song and prayer will end the service.

To help people who may not be able to attend the service we stream the Worship Service to our Youtube channel. This is available to watch live, or on-demand at another time

11:40 am – Bible Study.

The Bible Study follows straight after the Worship Service. During the Bible study period children are catered for in their own age-specific groups in different areas of the building. Someone will make sure that your children know where to go.

About 12:30 am – Social Time.

A chance to fellowship with hot or cold drinks and a biscuit. Some weeks we have a Pot Luck lunch (this will be promoted via this website) and an afternoon programme.

What shall I wear?

At Ringway Life Building, some people wear suits while others wear more casual clothes.

What happens when I arrive?

When you arrive you will be welcomed. You should then go and find a seat in the church – there are no reserved seats. Don’t worry about when to stand. We don’t have any fixed routine, so someone at the front will usually say when to stand. Don’t worry if you don’t know the songs, just listen and then join in when you feel able. Some people want to join in the singing while others don’t. If you are unsure about anything just ask.

Music

The music style is a mix of the older styles of music and the more contemporary styles. Some songs, especially those aimed at the children, have actions to them. If this is the case, some people will join in while others feel more comfortable just watching. The words for most songs are shown on a large screen at the front. Usually we will have a number of people accompanying the music on different instruments which include the piano, guitars, drums and flutes.

Support for the hard of hearing

We have an induction loop system so any hearing aid users just need to use the T setting on their hearing aid to access the loop
