Why do we display the sunset time on our website?
The Adventist church keeps the biblical principle that the Sabbath, (“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it Holy : Exodus 20:8 NIV) is observed from Sunset on Friday to Sunset on Saturday. Obviously the timing of sunset varies depending on location. The time we state on our website is for Manchester.
Another thing that is different to what is common throughout Christianity is that the Adventist Church keeps Saturday as the Sabbath, rather than the Sunday.
Again, this is based on the biblical principle of a seven day creation, where God rested on the seventh day – the Saturday. It was in 321 AD that the Roman Emperor Constantine I declared that Sunday was to be the day of rest.
